CONNECTION

Roam Yoga, a conscious living retreat, is an intimate space designed with love and intention. We are here to create connection. We strive to do so through our high-quality retreats, yoga classes, mindful meals, workshops, trainings, ceremonies, and life-affirming activities. Come wander on by.

We are a place to take time to slow down, a place where you can slide into the slower vibration of the jungle. We are intuitive, powerful, and loving beings. What we need at times is a reminder. This is a space for honoring change, transitions, and a space for re-connection. We’ve placed little altars everywhere as reminders of our oh-so-sacred lives. Take part in daily yoga and meditation, weekly ceremony, and mindful eating.

Relax & Restore your body and mind with our signature Self Care packages. You can hike the jungle paths, swim, and paddle from our dock. Then take a boat ride or enjoy some our area’s Island Excursions. Roam is a sacred space and an excellent jumping off point for inner exploration and external adventure.

THOSE AT ROAM ARE ALSO ROOTED.

Rather than wandering aimlessly, our vision is in the taking root, in staying in one place long enough to become connected and embedded into the community. Team ROAM travels with the intention to create a healthy marriage between the nomadic heart and the anchored soul.

Our dedication to migration stems from a belief in natural cycles. Birds and butterflies know when it’s time to go, and so do we, when we truly listen. Honest inquiry and intrinsic intuition lead the traveler home. Traveling and then MIGRATING back home to the truest self is an adventure that often feels out of reach but is always available. We believe that true YOGA is the migration back to one’s self, a journey worth taking.

Our Mission

Roam is a conscious living retreat steeped in spiritual practice. Our mission is to create a safe and sacred space for self-inquiry, unique retreats, and conscious co-creation. We live, work, and play in full communion with the earth, protecting what we have and manifesting abundance.

our VISION

We hope to shape the world by working together with local and global initiatives which inspire positive social and ecological impact.

About the Founders:

Meghan tolhurst

Co-Founder, Kitchen Witch, Experimental Herbalist, & Yoga mama.

Meghan is an educator and an explorer. She began practicing yoga almost 20 years ago and has been teaching for more than 15. She became interested in yoga because of the way the practice joins the body to the mind and the heart. Her classes merge passion for conscious connection and living a life with purpose. Her style is fluid whether in the studio or on a paddle board, anchored by the foundations of alignment and pranayama. While she practices asana daily, she believes the true practice begins when we step off the mat.

A lover of language, Meghan has a Master’s Degree in Literacy Education with a specialization in English as a Second Language. She is a writer, published in Elephant Journal, Yoga Trade, and Sri Lanka Travel Magazine.  She is the previous program facilitator and current marketing director for the Peace Through Yoga Foundation, a non-profit empowerment program-serving girls in rural Carbon, Costa Rica. She is 500 hour YTT certified.

She is most at home near salt water or holding a suitcase. Subsequently, she has lived and taught extensively in North Carolina, South Africa, and Costa Rica. She has co-led workshops in Costa Rica, Nicaragua & Aruba. Her most influential teachers include: Susana Harwood Rubin, Stephanie Snyder, Adriana Leiva, and Ancel Mitchell.

Ryan tolhurst

Co-Founder, Head Builder, Anatomy Teacher, Father & Yoga nerd.

Ryan first came to yoga in 1999 while earning his degree in biomechanics and kinesiology at the University of Richmond. Yoga was a way to deepen his understanding of the philosophical and spiritual topics he had long been exploring.

While attending the University of Richmond, Ryan enjoyed an athletic career that included both football and track & field. Following college, Ryan went on to play in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers. Yoga was integral in his physical and psychological health during his athletic career, as well as, in his transition from the world of professional sports.

Ryan has continued his in-depth study of the human body for over 20 years. His research on mindfulness and the human body have led him to publish research and speak nationally on the topics. Most recently, at the Educational Neuroscience Symposium, at Butler University.

Ryan embraces sharing how an understanding of the physical can lead to a deeper connection with oneself. Through a strong command of anatomy and physiology, his classes encourage students to look within themselves and realize their own optimal health and wellness. By integrating a spiritual and meditative awareness in his classes, Ryan hopes to inspire students to look within themselves, to live more mindful compassionate lives.

Back to the earth

We are 100% off the grid. We use solar energy for electricity and hot water and have rainwater catchment barrels in place. We utilize a septic system and have carved out a natural grey water filtering system. Of course, we compost, with containers for all the organic bi-products from our kitchen. Our gardens are informed by endeavor and infused with the ever-evolving teachings of permaculture. We strive to produce as little waste as possible.

Here we hope to create a sustainable microcosm of a community as an example of what is possible on a global level. In the spirit of sustainable building, our houses are constructed of local Nispero Wood and give the retreat a simple and natural elegance. We are dedicated to forward thinking environmental evolution. Energy efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint is not an option, it is the only way forward.

We continually explore and endeavor to increase our connection to the earth. We strive to learn efficient ways of living more sustainably and in greater harmony with the beauty that surrounds us. We want to preserve and protect the celestine waters and an intact and growing coral reef. This is the reason why, our front yard the ideal space to swim, snorkel, paddle, and relax.
